Chicago born Joan Edlis fulfilled a life long dream when she moved to London and became a British subject.
She is preoccupied with the connection between the immateriality of sound and the materiality of the world. Her explorations include drawing, printmaking, objects, installations, video and sound.
Completing her MA at City & Guilds London Art School in 2007, Edlis has been awarded residencies in Ireland, Budapest, Istanbul and most recently at the Aldeburgh Beach Lookout. Each location triggers a body of work arising directly from observing and experiencing the environment from being somewhere else.
Edlis lives and works in London.
