Artist's Biography

Tom Phillips was born in London in 1937. He went to St. Catherine’s College, Oxford in 1957 to study English. During the same time at Oxford, he was enrolled in life drawing classes at The Ruskin Art School and participated in plays and was a creative force behind the Isis magazine.  Phillips continued his education at Camberwell School of Art in 1961 where he began to be influenced by Frank Auerbach. Upon graduation, Phillips became a teacher at Bath Academy of Art and Wolverhampton Art during 1965 and 1972 where he taught art, music and english. Not only is Phillips an accomplished artist, he is a writer and composer.
